What is PU Foam?

PU foam is a polyurethane-based building material. It is applied as a liquid, expands and hardens quickly to form a strong insulation layer that completely fills gaps. It offers quick solutions, especially in roofs, wall cavities, attics, and hard-to-reach areas.

PU Foam Properties

  • High thermal insulation: With its closed-cell structure, it has low thermal conductivity; providing energy savings in both summer and winter.
  • Sound and moisture insulation: Reduces sound transmission in the environment and provides protection against dampness and humidity.
  • Strong adhesion: Easily adheres to many surfaces such as concrete, brick, wood, and metal.
  • Lightweight construction: Being lightweight, it does not add extra load to the building; it is a safe choice even for older buildings.
  • Fast curing: Hardens quickly, speeding up assembly and insulation processes.
  • Long-lasting performance: It does not sag, crack, or deform over time; it provides permanent insulation.

Applications of PU Foam

  1. Roof and ceiling insulation: Used to reduce heat loss in the attic, roof space, and between beams.
  2. Exterior wall cavities: These cavities strengthen insulation by preventing thermal bridges within the wall.
  3. Door and window installation: It seals the gaps around the frame to prevent airtightness.
  4. Basements and underground areas: Forms an effective protective layer against moisture, water vapor, and cold ground.
  5. Warehouses, garages, and industrial areas: Offers practical insulation with quick application possibilities in large-volume spaces.

PU Foam Application Tips

  • Ensure the surface is clean and dry; adhesion will be reduced on dirty surfaces.
  • Lightly moistening the surface before application helps the foam expand better.
  • Applying the product in thin layers rather than one thick layer yields better results.
  • Avoid applying pressure to the surface until the foam has fully hardened.
  • Once hardened, you can trim excess foam to smooth the surface, then paint or coat it.

Frequently Asked Questions

We've answered your frequently asked questions about PU Foam.

The surface to be treated must be clean and dry. Shake the can well and apply the foam to the gaps in a controlled manner using a pipette or spray gun. Allow for expansion during application, and trim any excess foam after it has hardened.

PU foam alone does not completely block water; however, when reinforced with a suitable coating, paint, or insulation material after application, it creates a more water-resistant structure.

PU foam effectively fills gaps by significantly increasing its volume after application. While the expansion rate depends on the product type, in most applications it provides sufficient coverage to fill the entire area.

PU foam is frequently preferred for door and window installation, gap filling, sound and heat insulation, crack sealing, and fixing. It is compatible with many surfaces such as wood, concrete, metal, and brick.

PU foam generally provides surface adhesion within a few minutes, although this can vary depending on ambient temperature and humidity. Full curing time is completed within a few hours, depending on the application thickness.
